Quail Hollow Area potentially targeted for Residential Burglaries during the July 4th Holiday 06-30-2009 - More

Quail Hollow Area potentially targeted for Residential Burglaries during the July 4th Holiday

During the week of July 4th last year, the Quail Hollow Area experienced seven residential burglaries. The homes that were targeted belonged to residents who were out of town on vacation for the week. Based on alarms that we received from some of the homes, we know that the burglaries occurred in the early morning hours sometime between 1:00 A.M. and 4:00 A.M. Entry was most often gained through a rear window. The property most frequently targeted was jewelry stored in a bedroom.

We are asking residents who live in communities off the following streets to be extremely vigilant in looking for suspicious activity over the holiday weekend:

  • Sharon Road between Sharon View Road and Park Road
  • Sharon View Road
  • Quail Hollow Road
  • Carmel Road between Sharon View Road and Quail Hollow Road

In addition, we are asking residents who are leaving for vacation during the July 4th Holiday to follow these prevention tips:

  • Set your alarm
  • Use timers for lights inside the home.
  • Have neighbors collect your mail and newspapers
  • Leave a car in the driveway (Remove all valuables and the garage door opener)
  • Store your jewelry in a safe deposit box.
  • Have a neighbor or friend check your house everyday.

Feel free to contact one of your Community Coordinators for more tips and information. jkitchens@cmpd.org or swhitesel@cmpd.org.

The South Division will have extra police patrols in the area during the holiday weekend. The good news is that the South Division currently has a 32% reduction in residential burglary for the year. We have had 154 burglaries this year as opposed to 225 this same time last year. Hopefully, with your help, we can maintain this trend through the rest of the year.

Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable July 4th.

Captain R. M. Golding
